NTPC Limited, India’s largest power utility, has present installed capacity of NTPC Group is 65,810 MW (including 11,755 MW through JVs/Subsidiaries) comprising of 46 NTPC Stations (23 Coal based stations, 7 gas based stations, 1 Hydro station, 1 small hydro, 13 Solar PV and 1 Wind based Station) and 25 Joint Venture stations (9 coal based, 4 gas based, 8 hydro, 1 small hydro 2 Wind and 1 Solar PV). NTPC is currently producing approx. 70 Million Tonne of ash from its operating coal based power stations. The Company being a socially & environmentally conscious utility always consider ash utilization as its thrust area of activities and in this line NTPC is searching innovative ideas for achieving 100% Ash Utilization on sustainable basis at all Coal based stations.
The objective of this competition is to invite innovative methods / ideas on utilization of Ash which are Techno-commercially feasible and practically implementable for achieving 100% Ash Utilization on sustainable basis at NTPC stations in environmental friendly manner.
The proposed theme is “Journey towards Greener Future-100% Ash Utilization on sustainable basis”.
D. Submission of Entries
The format for submission of proposal shall be made available on website/ web link. The contestant will be asked to upload their proposed Ideas in the following Heads :
Abstract of the proposed idea
Techno-commercial feasibility of the idea
Implementation time line in details for the proposed idea
Expected Ash Utilization potential by virtue of the proposed idea
Business Plan for implementation of the proposed idea
Shortlisted Teams / Individuals will have to give presentation before an Expert Committee for the purpose.
E. Evaluation Criteria
Evaluation of the proposal submitted for Grand Contest will be done at two levels.
First level shortlisting: Detailed proposal submitted by contestants will be evaluated on following parameters.
Practicability & effectiveness
Ash Utilization Potential
Second level shortlisting: The shortlisted contestants at First level will have to make presentation of their Ideas before Expert Committee comprising of Internal / External Members.
F. Prize Money
The winners will be selected by NTPC based on recommendations of the Expert Committee. Tentative prizes to the winning Team/ Individual are proposed as follows:
1st prize – Rs. 5 lakh
2nd prize – Rs. 3 lakh
3rd prize – Rs. 2 lakh
2 consolation prizes of Rs. 1 lakh each
G. Terms & Conditions for Grand Contest 2021 for Ash Utilization Ideas : 20-04-2021 To 19-05-2021
The Competition is open to professionals of Ash Utilization / Ash Handling / Research work on Ash Utilization / Ash Management / Fuel Management / Scrap Management / Waste Management / Market Assessment in Coal / Market Assessment in ash / Marketing etc.
Participant may be an Institute / Organization / Start up / Consultant / Individual or a Team of maximum 5 members. He / She / They must have valid PAN no.
No change in Name(s) and Number(s) of Team members or representatives of Institute / Organization will be admissible after submission of entry(ies).
Team/ Individual will indicate about the concept(s) / Idea(s) that whether the same is patented or not.
If the concept(s) / Idea(s) is patented, team/ individual has to indicate how much license fee will be payable for technology transfer to NTPC (in case the concept(s) / Idea(s) is selected in the contest), which will be finalized after due examination of proposal.
If the concept(s) / Idea(s) is not patented but selected in the contest, team/ individual has to indicate consent (yes/ no) to get it jointly patented by NTPC and concept(s) / Idea(s) proposer(s).
The language for proposing the concept shall be English. However, Hindi version will be welcomed as additional document.

The winners will be selected after recommendations of an Expert Committee specifically formed for the purpose. Decision of the Organization Committee would be final and binding on all the contestants and no clarifications would be issued to any participants for the decisions.
All the entries are meant to be used by NTPC Limited for promotional purposes and also for any other use as may be deemed appropriate for the initiative. None of the entries must contain any provocative, objectionable or inappropriate content.
The entry should not infringe any Intellectual Property Rights of any third party. NTPC Limited does not bear any responsibility for copyright violations or infringements of intellectual property carried out by the participants.
The entry must include contact details such as name, email ID, complete postal address and phone number. Entries with incomplete profiles would not be considered.
NTPC Limited reserves the right to reject any entry, which is not felt suitable or appropriate.
For payment to the award winners, requisite bank details will be taken after declaration of winners of the contest. Transactions will be on-line only and no cash transaction will be there.
NTPC Limited reserves the right to cancel or amend all or any part of the Contest and / or the Terms & Conditions / Technical parameters. Any disputes and legal complaints are subject to jurisdiction of Delhi only.

Ideas awarded in the Grand Contest for Ash Utilization Ideas conducted by NTPC in December 2018, will not be considered for participation.

Q1. What is the theme of the contest?

Q2. Is there any participation fee?
Ans. No, there is no fees for participation.
Q3. What are the eligibility criteria for participating in the contest?
Ans. All citizen of India, are eligible to participate. The participants may be Individual/ Team/ NGOs/ Professionals/ Researchers/Scientists/ Institutes/ Organizations/ Business Schools/ Startups etc. The participants can either be an individual; or teams of up to 5 participants. In case of team, maximum 3 persons will be invited & allowed to participate for making presentation & detailed discussion for Second level screening (if shortlisted in first level screening).

Ans. Yes, the contest is open for NTPC employees also.
Q5. How do I apply for the contest? Is it mandatory to register for contest?

Q7. What should be included in my proposal?
Ans. The proposal should include Abstract of the project, technical feasibility & commercial viability along with Detailed Methodology and Implementation time line for implementation of the proposed idea.
Q8. Can I send my proposal through email/ courier/ speed post etc?
Ans. No. Only on line proposal submitted through contest website will be accepted. No hard copy will be accepted.
Q9. What is the selection procedure?
Ans. The submitted proposal shall be evaluated at two levels which has been described in detail under Evaluation Criteria in the menu.
Q10. Can I modify the submitted proposal?
Ans. You can modify Abstract and all uploads till the last date of contest opening i.e. 19.05.2021 (23:59:59 Hrs.) before final submission. Contestants can save the proposal in draft mode and can edit details at later stage. No change can be done after the proposal is submitted.
Q11. Can I upload images or videos to support my contest?
Ans. Yes, proposal may include pictures, tables, charts etc.
Q12. How many members may be in the team?
Ans. In case of team, there must not be more than 5 members in the team.
Q13. Are multiple entries allowed from the same team/individual?
Ans. No, multiple entries are not allowed from the same team.
